IMPORTANT UPDATE: RESOLUTIONS PASSED AT AGM #47 in Lake Louise Dec. 2, 2022
Resolution 1 pertains to the amendment of Bylaw section 2.03.3.6 - The category of "Temporary Withdrawn" is now open to all registrants in good standing (less the Student category).
Resolution 2 pertains to the amendment of Bylaw section 2.03.3.7 - The category of "Associated Biologist" is now open to all registrants in good standing (less the Student category).
Resolution 1 pertains to the amendment of Bylaw section 2.03.3.6 - The category of "Temporary Withdrawn" is now open to all registrants in good standing (less the Student category).

5. What if I've returned to school?
If you have returned to school full-time, you may re-classify to the Student register through your online user portal. Re-classifying removes your status (and use of the title.) When you wish to return, you will need to meet the requirements in effect at the time you apply for registration. (This may include applying as a new applicant).
6. How do I go on Temporary Withdrawn or Associated Biologist Status?
You must apply for Temporary Withdrawn or Associated Biologist through your user portal by clicking on "Apply to Reclassify" in your user portal.
Once you input your CCP, you must complete the application to reclassify. If the status under “Purchased” is “false”, your application has not been submitted. You can complete the submission of your application by clicking on the “Continue” in the far right-hand column under “My Membership Applications” in your user portal (see picture below.) Complete the application through the $0 fee payment screen.
Once your application is submitted, you will receive an email from [email protected] with the subject line “Your Application Has Been Received.” Please ensure this email address is added to your safe email addresses so it is not sorted to the spam or trash folder. If you do not receive an email, you have not applied for re-classification. Log in to you user account and check the “My Membership Applications” section.
Applications for re-classification are generally processed within 3 business days. You will receive an email from [email protected] with the subject line “ The ASPB Registration Committee has made a decision regarding your application." If your application was approved and you are extended an offer to register as Temporary Withdrawn or Associated Biologist, you may log in and pay your renewal fees once you receive the email.
Applying for reclassification does not affect the application of late renewal fees or change the cancellation date for non-payment of fees. Reclassification applicants extended an offer of registration that do not pay the reclassification category renewal fees will have the late renewal fee added to their fees on 1 February. Registrants that do not pay outstanding fees by 31 March will be suspended from the Register.

7. What if I am currently Temporary Withdrawn and want to renew as P Biol?
Please log in and apply to reclassify to P Biol. There is no fee to re-classify from Temporary Withdrawn and no requirement for references or transcripts. Applications are generally approved within three business days.

8. How do I renew my registration?
The registration year is from January 1 to December 31. Renewals open December 1 for the coming calendar year and you must renew your registration starting January 1 in order to be considered a member in good standing. For example, on December 1, 2022, renewals for the 2023 registration year will open. To be a member in good standing, registrants must pay their renewal fee by 1 January 2022. The late fee is added February 1, you can review the late renewal fee schedule here. If you do not pay the outstanding fee(s) by March 31, the ASPB will suspend your registration. It may be possible for you to reinstate your registration or you may be required to reapply to ASPB under current requirements. If you are eligible for reinstatement, it will be indicated in your user portal. The reinstatement fee can be found here . Registrants can log into their user account by clicking on the "Sign In"at the upper right corner of this page. The ASPB only accepts Visa or MasterCard credit cards for payment. Renewals are only processed through the online system. The online payment system checks the entered address against the records of the financial institution of the card you are paying. Please check that you are entering the address to match, especially abbreviations.

9. Who has to do Continuing Competency?
Only Professional Biologists are required to track their continuing competency and submit their information each year. Tracking starts when a member becomes a Professional Biologist, and courses or work experience undertaken while a Biologist in Training does not count. The Continuing Competency Program Guidelines download is available in the Member portal under "Member Downloads."
First year P Biol registrants CCP requirement can be calculated using the pro-rate formula (35/12)*X, where X is the number of full months that you were registered as a P Biol. A total of 35 hours must be uploaded into the previous year in order to continue in good standing.

10. When do I pay my registration fee?
The membership year is from January to December each year. You can log on to the ASPB website to renew your membership starting December 1. It is important to note that late renewal fee is added February 1. You have until March 31 to pay your registration fee or you will be suspended from the Register.
11. What happens if I do not pay my renewal registration fee?
If you do not pay your registration fee, the Board will direct that your registration be suspended. If you wish to become a registrant again, you may be required to apply to ASPB as though you were a new member or you may be eligible for reinstatement. If you are eligible for reinstatement, it will be indicated in your user account. The reinstatement fee is can be found here. From the Professional Biologists Regulations regarding fee payment:
Payment of fee
7(1) A registered member must pay the annual fee prescribed by the bylaws to the Association Registrar or to any person authorized by the Association Registrar to accept payment of the fee.
(2) A registered member who has not renewed the member’s annual registration in accordance with the bylaws must pay the late renewal fee prescribed by the bylaws to the Association Registrar or to any person authorized by the Association Registrar to accept payment of the fee.
Annual certificate
8(1) The Association Registrar must issue an annual certificate in accordance with the bylaws to a person
(a) whose registration is not under suspension or cancelled, and
(b) who has paid the annual fee.
(2) An annual certificate expires on the date prescribed in the bylaws.

If you wish to resign your registration, be advised that per legislation resignations must be approved by the Board and your request will be added to the next Agenda. To resign, log into your user portal and select “Apply to Resign.”
As of the first of the new registration year (January 1), applications must include a declaration the stamp or the title of Professional Biologist has not been used since the registration year recently expired (December 31.) For example, as of January 1, 2023, the declaration must state the stamp and title have not been used since December 31, 2022. The submission of outstanding CCP is required to resign.
It may take a few months for your resignation to be approved by the Board so you will continue to receive communications regarding your registration until a decision is made regarding your request.
If you wish to become a registrant again, you may be required to apply to ASPB as though you were a new member or you may be eligible for reinstatement.
