Scholarships and Awards
The Alberta Society of Professional Biologists is proud to offer a number of awards which recognize excellence in the profession, scientific publications, and volunteerism within the profession and the society. These awards are adjudicated by the Society's Awards Committee.
The Society works through Alberta's colleges and universities to offer scholarships and bursaries to outstanding students in the field of biology. These awards are managed and adjudicated by the relevant institutions.
In an effort to engage younger students in the subject of biology, the Society also participates at student science fairs at the elementary and secondary school level.

Peggy Thompson Publication Awards
These awards are designed to recognize and encourage high standards of achievement in publishing biological information and in conveying an understanding of the concepts and application of biological sciences.

Dr. J.D. Soper Award
The Dr. J.D. Soper Award recognizes outstanding contributions in the field of biology. The recipient must be an Alberta biologist and be nominated by an ASPB member with letters of support from three members, and receive the unanimous consent of the Board of Directors.

Distinguished Service Award
A recipient of this award will reflect the Society’s objectives for high standards, ethics, public service, networking and education, and be a voice for Professional Biologists in Alberta.

Recognizing volunteer activities as significant contributions to the ASPB’s programs and as service to the membership.

Scholarships, Bursaries and Institutional Awards
The following awards are administered by the relevant academic institutions:
ASPB Graduate Scholarship – University of Alberta
Awarded annually to an outstanding student in a full-time graduate degree program in the Department of Biological Sciences.
D. Alan Birdsall Memorial Scholarship – University of Alberta
Awarded annually to a graduate student and/or post-doctoral fellow who is specializing in the field of applied fisheries ecology and management and is continuing studies at the University of Alberta.
ASPB Scholarship – University of Lethbridge
Awarded for academic achievement and excellence in biological research
ASPB Graduate Scholarship – University of Calgary
Awarded for academic achievement and excellence in biological research
Science Fair Awards
Awarded at the Calgary and Edmonton Regional Science fairs to stimulate an interest in biology among Alberta students.
