Practice Review and Discipline Committee
The Practice Review and Discipline Committees are regulated committees under the Professional Biologists Regulation.
The Practice Review committee assesses and develops educational standards and experience requirements that are conditions precedent to registration as a professional biologist. The committee also looks at standards of competence and the practice of biology. The committee enacted the continuing competency program, which is an important part of any profession. With growing public demand for accountability for professionals, it is important that every Professional Biologist participate in the ASPB’s Continuing Competency Program and adhere to continuing competency guidelines.
The ASPB has made it easier to track member participation by developing and implementing an online system which helps members track professional development activity and time and assists the Society to audit professional participation.
The ASPB Discipline Committee reviews and responds to any report of non-professional behaviour by a member of the ASPB which is inconsistent with the Code of Ethics. The ASPB takes reports of such behaviour very seriously and complaint submissions are managed in accordance with Part 3 of the Professional and Occupational Associations Registration Act, RSA 2000, c P-26. You can find the full act here.
