Angela Holzapfel
I am a Senior Biologist with HDR, bringing over 20 years of experience in environmental management and aquatic ecology. I hold a MSc in Environmental Biology and Ecology from the University of Alberta and have been an active member of the ASPB since 2007. My career has been grounded in scientific integrity, problem solving, collaboration, and leadership. My work spans a wide range of environmental disciplines, including ecological assessment, regulatory compliance, and project management for complex infrastructure and development projects across Alberta, Northern Canada, and beyond.
I am currently serving as the Board Secretary for the ASPB. My strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to transparent communication make her a valuable asset to the Board. I am passionate about advancing the role of professional biologists in Alberta and I am eager to continue supporting the Society's mission and supporting the board and membership with our transition to the new Professional Governance Act once proclaimed.

Nominees for Director (3 positions open):
Beth Boyce
I am a passionate and experienced professional mainly focused on renewable energy development, with a strong commitment to advancing sustainable practices and innovation. My background combines scientific expertise with strategic project development, stakeholder engagement, and a dedication to collaboration across disciplines.
I am running for the ASPB Board of Directors because I am eager to contribute my experience and interdisciplinary perspective to support ASPB’s ongoing work in fostering scientific communities, promoting career development, and supporting innovation and forward thinking.
To date, my involvement with ASPB has been limited as I just received my P. Biol in 2025 and have attended one conference previously. However, I have found the Society to be a great resource for both scientific growth and professional networking, and I’m committed to helping it continue to thrive.
I would be glad to serve on the ASPB Board and help guide the Society’s future direction in a way that is collaborative, forward‐thinking, and impactful.

Charmaine Leidal
Hello everyone. My name is Charmaine Leidal. My current role is as Team Lead - Wildlife, with Vertex Resource Group. I have been a biologist for over 15 years, specializing in the wildlife field for its majority. Over the years, I have been involved in conservation programs as well government and industry driven projects related to renewable energy, infrastructure, linear development, and oil and gas. During this time, I also obtained my Project Management Professional (PMP) designation to compliment my technical experience.
I currently live in Medicine Hat with my husband and son, and we love it here. I enjoy reading too much but also try to balance that with outdoor activities like hiking, trail running, and kayaking. However, I am sure I spend most of my actual time driving our son to hockey or whatever the latest practice is.
I am running for the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (ASPB) Board of Directors because I would like to contribute and to serve our profession in a meaningful way. I am hoping that along the way it will also allow me to build or strengthen new relationships within our organization and help me continue to grow as a professional. I have been a member of ASPB as a Professional Biologist since 2013 and have wanted to participate in some manner since then but have not taken advantage of that option until now. In the past, prior to its amalgamation into Southern Alberta, I served as Secretary for several years on the board of Habitat for Humanity Medicine Hat. I found my involvement on the board to be a rewarding and valuable learning experience and would like to put that knowledge and skill to work in a similar role.
As an applicant for a board position, I believe that my experience, knowledge and enthusiasm will be an asset to the role and look forward to an opportunity to be able to demonstrate that to this organization and its members.

I have been a member of ASPB since 2013, when I received my professional designation. I have been sitting on the ASPB Board of Directors since November 2024. I completed a one-year term with the board, and it has been such a great experience. The people who work at ASPB are fantastic, and I have enjoyed getting to know the other ASPB Board Members.
It is for this reason that I would like to submit my name for another term on the ASPB Board of Directors. This past year has gone so quickly, and I am excited to continue working on some of the initiatives from this last year.
During the Fall 2024 to Fall 2025 term, I participated in some of the ASPB social events, including one held at the Medicine Hat College. I worked with an ASPB employee to talk to students, professors and professionals in the community about the ASPB. It was a great event with good food, good company and great discussions. I am planning to attend future ASPB events celebrating ASPB’s 50 years, including more social events in Medicine Hat and southern Alberta, and the ASPB conference this November.
Prior to participating on the ASPB Board of Directors this last year, I participated in multiple ASPB conferences, spoke at Mount Royal University Information Session and presented at multiple amphibian workshops, including a workshop held by ASPB at the Calgary Zoo in the Fall of 2016.
I love chatting with the members of ASPB, and I look forward to making new connections along the way. We have some wonderful biologists in Alberta, and it is great to exchange our field stories, our roadblocks and our ideas.

Shilo Andrews-Braurer
Hello! My name is Shilo Brauer, and I am an ecologist with over twenty years experience in the environmental realm. My current role is as a Senior Ecologist with Montrose. After growing up in rural southern Alberta, I received my B.Sc. in Ecology from the University of Calgary in 2003 and my M.Sc. from the University of Lethbridge in Ecology in 2010. Previous work experience includes supporting sustainable agricultural for a small rural municipality and working with small to mid-size consulting firms.
I have been on the ASPB Board for 3 years and I am putting my name forward to continue as a Director with the ASBP. My objectives are to play an active role in the continued support and regulation of biologists and scientists in Alberta. I began my journey with the ASPB in 2008 as a BIT, receiving my P.Biol. designation in 2012 and have maintained my designation since. I participated in the mentorship program as a mentee when it was first initiated. I bring practical experience and a commonsense approach to the ASPB as a board member, as the ASPB continues to evolve as an organization.
I have extensive experience working within the environmental regulatory framework in Alberta, including supporting a wide range of industries (e.g., oil and gas, coal, renewables and agriculture). My career includes significant time in the field, predominantly in the vegetation and wetlands realm. I am closely involved in projects at all stages of their life cycle: project planning, field work, data management, reporting, technical review, and project management. In my personal time I support multiple non-profit organizations in my rural community and am a hobby beekeeper.
