We specialize in planning, permitting, strategy development and implementation, and environmental services. Job description
The ideal candidate will have a combination of work and educational experience in environment, natural resources, renewable resources, ecology, or similar sectors. In this position, you will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of energy-sector environmental assessments, field programs, and mitigation reports, while also actively participating in biophysical field programs from time to time. We are looking for someone with a collaborative approach who can work with a diverse range of clients, and who has a great attitude and a willingness to grow as a professional.
As a Senior Biologist at Maskwa, you will proactively contribute to the development and evaluation of Maskwa's Quality Management Policy and support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution. In addition to assisting in the preparation and submission of regulatory applications, you will also provide technical report writing and peer review of technical reports and deliverables.
Core qualifications (minimum requirements)
- University degree (e.g., B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in an environment focused program such as Environmental Science, Biology, or related discipline.
- Ten years of related work experience.
- Field survey experience assessing wildlife and wildlife habitats.
- Competent in data compilation, technical reporting, and written and oral communication.
- Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word).
- Strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented, and suited to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Open-minded approach to participating in different types of projects, tasks and responsibilities associated with a small and growing business.
- An unwavering commitment to safety and familiarity with safety requirements in the field and in the office.
- A Class 5 driver’s licence.
- Having a professional designation considered a strong asset (e.g., P.Biol., R.P. Bio., P.Ag.).
The preferred candidate will have the following attributes to support our team and our clients:
- Experience in consulting and working on power-sector developments in Alberta.
- Ability to effectively mentor junior and intermediate personnel.

Core responsibilities
Core responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Lead, develop, implement, and monitor various energy-sector environmental assessments, field programs, and mitigation reports.
- Actively participate in (and lead) biophysical field programs, when needed.
- Pro-actively contribute/assist/support the development, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of Maskwa’s Quality Management Policy in relation to environmental deliverables and work performed.
- Support (or lead) project planning, scheduling, budgeting, cost control/monitoring, billing oversight, and execution.
- Supporting and strengthening client relationships.
- Contribute/collaborate generally to Maskwa projects and team members as required.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory applications.
- Technical report writing and peer review of technical reports and deliverables.
- Liaise with project teams and clients via phone, email, writing, and in-person meetings.
- Collaborate with staff across the company and externally in completing deliverables
- Deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic working environment.
- Complete required corporate operation and administrative activities (time entry, expense submissions, invoicing, reporting, etc.) as required, in a timely manner.
- Support Maskwa employees in day-to-day business operations.

Location
This is a full-time position preferably based out of our Calgary or Edmonton office. Remote or hybrid work arrangements would be considered. With this role, travel throughout Alberta may be required.
