• Duration – Full time, year round

• Salary – $27-35/hr plus OT (depending on experience)

We are recruiting for a Junior to Intermediate Wildlife Biologist position to join our team based out of Sylvan Lake, Alberta. This position is ideal for someone who desires ongoing skills development in wildlife assessment and research through both field work and technical report writing, within the consulting industry.

The position is based in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, with the successful applicant relocating to within reasonable daily commuting distance to the office. The position requires travel and field work throughout Western and Northern Canada. Primary job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Leading crews conducting bird surveys and Sharp-tailed Grouse trapping, handling, and tagging

• Wildlife research and wildlife capture programs

• Construction monitoring, nest sweeps, wildlife sweeps, habitat surveys

• Technical report writing

• Assisting other disciplines (e.g. aquatics, veg/wetlands) as required

We are seeking a hardworking, mature, career-orientated individual with an interest in wildlife biology. The successful candidate will report to the senior wildlife biologist. Both field and writing aptitude are important skills required for this position.

Requirements:

• 2 + full years of wildlife experience, preferably in the consulting industry.

• Possession of a biological, conservation sciences, natural resource or equivalent degree from a recognized university

• Knowledge and experience with bird ID (sight, sound, and sign)

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

• Availability to work flexible hours as project requirements dictate

• Willing and able to travel and work in remote locations in potentially harsh weather conditions for extended periods of time (2 to 3 weeks) & in good physical condition

• Valid class 5 driver’s license

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

• Canadian citizen

Experience Assets

• Capture and handling of wildlife (particularly birds)

• Field experience in Western or Northern Canada, consulting experience

• GPS, compass navigation

• Data analysis, statistical analysis, GIS (QGIS or Arc GIS)

• Field equipment use and maintenance (e.g. 4x4 trucks, trailers, UTV, Argo, ATV, boats, snowmobile)
